Trend survey: what customers in the renovation sector really want

How will we be living and working in the year 2010? And what effect does that have on flooring renovation? As a reliable partner in everything to do with flooring, UFloor Systems has the duty to recognise trends in flooring technology at an early stage and to offer perfect solutions for every situation. Therefore, UFloor Systems has re-examined its customer target groups and is following up these elementary questions: in August 2007, the survey "Flooring Technology 2010" was commissioned with the market research company GfK. The results of the survey confirm significant trends which Uzin Utz AG, with its product brands, has been serving for many years and will serve even more strongly in the future.
UFloor Systems shows the way: the answer to these new demands is Switchtec, an adhesive technology that guarantees fast and uncomplicated flooring renovation: it is now offered under the Uzin brand-name in addition to the established product range.

According to the findings of the "Flooring Technology 2010" survey, the modern world of work and living gives the industry new responsibilities. For example, mobility and flexibility will force flooring renovation into a new line of thought.

New times, new demands
New times bring new demands. High quality products are commonplace. Reliability and good application properties alone are, today, not enough to inspire the customers. The customer has become particular and his understanding of what is an excellent product encompasses many things, such as innovation and image, design and perfection, originality and service. From this, Uzin draws its conclusions: "As the ‘intelligent power’ the brand has the duty today to recognise trends and future needs and to react appropriately with innovation. Among other things, there are new social trends in living and working.

End-users demand ever faster and cleaner renovation. Also, business people are not ready to put up with longer periods of closure, for example in shops or offices", explained Chairman of the Board of Uzin Utz AG, Dr. H. Werner Utz. Another important aspect is the increase in home relocations. Flexible flooring renovation is replacing the tradition of "flooring for life". "These subjects will keep us busy in coming years and, with Switchtec, we are preparing ourselves in good time for all these factors and demands."

Measurable trends in the renovation sector: it should be fast, clean and easy
In the survey "Flooring Technology 2010", it was confirmed by the trades-people surveyed that, on average, 70 percent of flooring orders are for renovation work. The floor covering influences the atmosphere of the whole room and is, therefore, an important design element. In the planning of a flooring change, not only the visual appearance but also the needs of the business, homeowner or tenant are to be taken into account.


With Switchtec adhesive technology there is, in the renovation sector, a completely new and 25 percent bigger market. Fast, clean and economical flooring renovation, without loss of use, is now possible.


Switchtec showpiece project: in the Mientus Flagship Store in Berlin, across four floors, the best of the best designers are on show. So as to be able to modernise the appearance of the flooring quickly and without dust or noise, they decided to adhere the high-quality designer tiles on Switchtec adhesive technology.

And so, for 90 percent of private individuals and 96 percent of professional decision-makers, a fast, clean and economical renovation, without loss of use, is important for future replacements. Last but not least, 25 percent of the private individuals and B-to-B decision-makers surveyed would change floor coverings twice as often with the new adhesive technology – on average, every six years instead of eleven years. Or in other words: with Switchtec adhesive technology, in the renovation sector, there is a completely new and 25 percent bigger market.

With Switchtec offer something different from the competition
On the basis of these interviews and the available results, a real opportunity to be different from the competition has developed and Switchtec has been taken into the Uzin product range with effect from the new year: the products from the UFloor Systems brand Sifloor, proven over 20 years and in future to be known as Switchtec adhesive technology within the Uzin product range, will serve as an ideal complement and will create sustainability.

Floor coverings can be changed as easily as a piece of furniture
With flooring renovation, apart from appearance, speed counts above all. The products in the Switchtec adhesive technology range turn the floor covering into an easy-to-change piece of furniture. With Sigan 2, for example, it is possible to bond a new carpet, PVC or nora rubber flooring direct onto an existing resilient covering. There is no need for laborious or costly removal of the old flooring. That not only saves time but also avoids dirt, dust and noise. It is also very practical because the new covering can be used immediately. All areas remain available without interruptions. There are also advantages for future replacement: if the covering laid on Sigan 2 wears, it can easily be removed, along with the adhesive and, above all, leaving no residue. That makes for real creative freedom since an easy to change flooring also makes for easier re-design. In only six hours, 100 square metres of flooring can be replaced. And all Switchtec products are odourless and guaranteed free from solvents, resins and plasticisers.
For instance, Sigan1 is especially suitable for first installation of floor coverings onto levelling compounds, anhydrite screeds or chipboard. Sigan 2 can be installed onto existing resilient coverings and Sigan 3 can be used on wood flooring, laminates, artificial stone and terrazzo.
