In the centre of the Cologne forest park, in the western part of the city, lies the popular vista restaurant Club Astoria, from which the visitor can enjoy a breathtaking view of the “Adenauer Weiher”. Built in 1948 by the Belgian Army, the Club Astoria served until 2003 as an officers’ casino and hotel, and since 2007 has been attracting gourmets and others seeking relaxation, offering seating for over 500 guests. Whether in the beer-garden, the bistro or the gourmet restaurant, every visitor gets their money’s worth here. With such a great influx of guests, it was essential when laying the parquet flooring to use a sealant with a high level of resistance. The choice of the floor-layers, Bodendesign Gaidies from Niederkassel, therefore fell on the oil-wax combination of Magic Oil 2K natur of the Pallmann brand.

Procedure
The 110 m2 of bamboo 2-ply parquet flooring (coffee), laid in a lattice arrangement, was first sanded with a belt sander using Pallmann sanding paper grit 100. This was followed by a second sanding part with the single-disc machine with sanding paper grit 120. The 2-component Magic Oil natur was then applied evenly with the aid of a stainless steel trowel, and after approx. 20 minutes the excess was removed with a green Pallmann polishing pad. Immediately after polishing, the second coat of oil was applied, and the excess removed immediately , again using a green polishing pad. The final polishing was then carried out with a white pad, so that the surface was free of excess material. In order to achieve a consistent surface appearance, it was polished once more by the installers after 20 minutes with a white pad.

The initial care of the oiled flooring took place around 3 weeks later. First the floor was cleaned of dirt and dust with the aid of a mop, and then the maintenance system Magic Oil Care was applied with a wiping mop.

Summary:
The excellent - protective property of the oil produces an extremely effective water- and dirt-repellent surface, which cannot be achieved by 1-component parquet oils. The high maintenance requirement of parquet oils can also be minimised by the use of Magic Oil 2K.
The use of Magic Oil 2K from Pallmann offers building managers, architects and specifiers a really practical solution which meets the demands of high traffic loading on the flooring whilst enhancing the beauty of the bamboo parquet.
